STockport Against Racism Today
The council along with it's partners in the Safer Stockport Partnership are committed to improving the way in which racist and other hate motivated incidents are addressed. This partnership is co-ordinated through START . The Crime, Drugs and Disorder Reduction Strategy 2005-8 Action Plan commits START to review all recorded cases and ensure all agencies provide the appropriate responses (both support and enforcement activity) and identify weaknesses or gaps in service.
START is a multi agency race forum that meets on a quarterly basis to discuss race issues in the Stockport area and is attended by all statutory agencies along with some community groups that exist in Stockport .
Training is also available through START which will enable agencies and groups to act as reporting centres for hate crime.
The acting chair for the START group is Steve Brown, Head of Community Safety, he can be reached on 0161 474 3143 or steve.brown@stockport.gov.uk
The terms of reference for the group can be found by clicking here.
