This action group looks at the built and natural environment and how it can be made less conducive to crime and anti-social behaviour. Key partners in this group work together to identify hotspots across Stockport borough where crime levels are higher than average. Work to reduce these levels is then undertaken at these locations, for example, improvements to street lighting have been a major priority for the year 2002/2003. Reductions in crime levels and the fear of crime in certain neighbourhoods are a key target of this group. Examples of changes that can be made to the environment that have a positive impact on crime are:
- Improving lighting and visibility
- Tackling graffiti and fly-tipping
