Latest Crime Figures in Stockport
The Safer Stockport Partnership (SSP) has welcomed the reductions in crime figures that show an 18% decrease in crime across the borough for 2007/2008.
The figures show that the SSP has achieved the biggest overall reduction in the volume of crime compared to other crime and disorder reduction partnerships across the whole of Greater Manchester.
Figures show that the number of burglaries in Stockport is down 27%, robbery is down 12.9%, violence against the person is down 8.6% and vehicle crime has also fallen by 37.03%.
Stockport has the lowest rate of crimes per thousand population in Greater Manchester.
Ged Lucas, Stockport Council’s Deputy Chief Executive and joint chair of the Safer Stockport Partnership, said: “This is a very impressive achievement by the SSP and a real boost to the work of the SSP. I would like to thank the police and all partners for all their hard work. These figures only serve to highlight the professionalism of the local police in the way they respond to the public and that the reduction of crime is a matter for us all not just the Police.”
Neil Wain, Chief Superintendent of Stockport Police and joint chair of the Safer Stockport Partnership, said: "Of course I am delighted with the reductions in crime in Stockport over the last 12 months especially the fact that there were over 5,000 fewer victims of crime. Not only have we reduced crime but we have detected more, including serious crimes such as robbery and violence but for me what is particularly pleasing is the feedback we are getting from the public as we carry out our work.
"At the heart of this success have been our Neighbourhood Policing Teams and Volume Crime Task Force who have been targeting those criminals who cause the most harm. As a partnership we are working hard to build on this foundation to provide a more responsive and effective policing service to all our communities."
