Tackling burglary of people's homes remains a key part of the Safer Stockport Partnership's crime reduction strategy. Despite a considerable fall in the numbers of burglaries experienced year-on-year, we still want to get the figures down even lower.
The partnership is working in a number of ways to tackle the burglary problem, including providing advice and information to residents on how to keep their home secure. We also have schemes which provide “target-hardening” assistance to victims of burglary and other vulnerable residents which provide additional physical security measures to their homes. In addition to this, Stockport Council has a scheme which also provides free security to residents who meet certain criteria. For further information on these schemes please see the links below.
Where an area has a particular burglary problem, officers from across the partnership will be involved in targeted works to address this, and we will focus extra resources in these areas in order to lessen the number of burglaries taking place.
We also undertake a range of work aimed at those individuals who are responsible for committing burglary offences in Stockport , and we will target these individuals for extra supervision and support to stop their offending. We also undertake work to tackle those outlets that we believe are used to dispose of stolen property, in order to make burglary a less attractive proposition for the offenders
The partnership is also involved in work to tackle “bogus official” burglary, where vulnerable residents are targeted by unscrupulous persons calling at their homes posing as genuine tradespeople or officials.
