Page Title - ASBAT

The Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team (ASBAT) was set up in September 2001. The role of the team is to investigate reported incidents of anti-social behaviour in the Borough of Stockport. Anti-social behaviour can include misuse of public space, disregard for community/personal wellbeing, acts directed at people and environmental damage.

ASBAT is just one of a group of agencies that form the Safer Stockport Partnership. Other key agencies are the Greater Manchester Police, the Probation Service, the Youth Offending Team, Housing, Education, Health and Social Services. All the partnership agencies are committed to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour by providing resources, agreeing to sharing information and working as a partnership.

One of the biggest difficulties the Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team and the Police experience when investigating incidents, is the unwillingness of residents to report this type of behaviour. We understand that some people don't feel an incident serious enough to report or they fear reprisals. Reports can be made anonymously in some cases however, failure to report them sends out the wrong message to perpetrators. If we are not made aware of what is happening and who is committing these acts then we cannot respond.

The Anti-Social Behaviour Team (ASBAT) and the local Police now actively share information from our records under the Crime and Disorder Act. If there is evidence that an individual is found responsible for anti-social behaviour the ASBAT and Police will visit their home and speak to them and their parents if they are youths. If the behaviour persists an Acceptable Behaviour Contract may be considered. In some cases, the Safer Stockport Partnership may seek legal interventions to protect the public such as Injunctions, Parenting Orders and/or Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBO'S).

If you require more information or would like to make a referral then please contact the ASBAT on 0161 476 2876 or e-mail ASBAT@stockport .gov.uk.
